Cultural Presentation Project


The Cultural Presentation Project  due March 21, 2011
Objective:
1. Culture consists of all the beliefs, customs, laws, art, and ways of living that a group of people share. In this project, students will study how culture shapes an individual country and establishes a culture region.

Procedure:
Part One
1. Students will research the government, people (population, ethnic groups, religions), language, media sources, schools, technology, pop culture, and traditions of their randomly selected country. Students will then type (12 font, double spaced) a two page, 400 word minimum, essay answering the following question:

6th Grade
How does culture help distinguish the North African & Southwest Asian region, from the rest of the world?
(How does the culture in my research country, show how different North Africa and Southwest Asia are from the rest of the world.)

7th Grade
How does culture help distinguish the Western European region, from the rest of the world?
(How does the culture in my research country, show how different Western Europe is from the rest of the world.)


Students must provide at least three examples from their research in their essay.  In addition, a detailed list of sources used in their paper must be provided.
 
Part Two:
2. Student must present their information in class in one of four ways:
a. Powerpoint Presentation:
Students create a powerpoint presentation on the different parts of culture in the country, equip with photos.
b. Poster-Collage Presentation:
Student provide visuals of photos representing the country.
c. Creative Presentation (Replica of pyramid, building, clothing, food dish, music, song, game, pen pal etc.)
d. Travel Brochure
Students research a foreign country and prepare a travel brochure. Information should include photos, basic factual information, and an overview of climate, food, holidays, and things to see.


Conclusion:
Students will be graded based on:
Essay (essay structure, grammar, examples, 400 word minimum)       50
Works Cited Page (sources page; three internet sites maximum)         15
Presentation (10 minutes max; creativity)                                               35
